Ben Eater’s breadboard clock can count and display time, but a practical clock also needs a way to set it. In the fifth part of his breadboard-clock series, published on 18 October 2026, he works through the extra logic and push-button controls needed to adjust the display.
The 20-minute video keeps the circuitry visible as Eater develops the time-setting controls on the breadboard. He walks through logic around the clock’s counters, then adds buttons and discusses how a physical switch’s signal behaves. The result is a useful reminder that a seemingly simple user control can require as much thought as the counting circuit it drives.
For anyone building digital hardware from individual ICs, the interest is in the method: Eater shows the intermediate circuit decisions instead of treating “set the time” as a software feature that appears by magic. This is a continuing build, not a finished commercial clock.
