Rob Smith has found an unusual way to move an Amiga pointer: a pen-shaped optical mouse. In a video published on 18 October 2026, he handles the wired device, tries it in Workbench and opens it for a closer look.
The demonstration shows the important distinction. To the Amiga it behaves like a conventional mouse, but the user holds and moves it like a pen over its pad. Smith shows the cursor responding as he moves the device. That makes this a curious piece of input-hardware history, not a new graphics-tablet interface or evidence of pressure-sensitive drawing.
It is a small but telling reminder that designers experimented with more than the familiar desktop mouse shape. The seven-minute RobSmithDev video is worth watching for the hands-on test and the look inside the device.
