A 1978 US-made Exidy Sorcerer has turned up on Hey Birt!’s workbench, and its repair is a reminder that a vintage computer can have several independent faults rather than one dramatic failure.

In the 33-minute restoration video, published on 7 November 2026, Hey Birt! works through the machine in stages: a power-supply repair, RAM and data-bus testing, a BASIC cartridge fault, and then the cassette interface. The sequence makes the diagnostic process the story: getting power back is only the beginning when a Z80 system still has to read memory, run its cartridge software and load data reliably.

The Sorcerer is an unusual survivor, and the video is especially useful for its methodical separation of those symptoms. It is a repair account, not a claim that every Sorcerer will fail in the same way. Watch Hey Birt!’s original Exidy Sorcerer video for the bench work and results.
