RetroRGB has tested AverMedia’s Live Gamer Ultra S (GC553Pro) against the signals that make retro capture hardware difficult to recommend. In its 12 October 2026 video, the channel checks the USB capture device with retro-gaming sources rather than relying only on its modern-console specifications.

The useful finding is qualified: RetroRGB reports that the card works with MiSTer’s low-latency modes, including Direct Video, but does not work with the OSSC’s SNES 5× mode. That distinction matters to anyone building a capture setup around an existing scaler. A headline resolution or frame-rate rating cannot tell you whether a particular nonstandard retro signal will actually lock.

The video also walks through lossless capture and shows live capture software receiving a game signal. RetroRGB says the GC553Pro can capture 1080p60 losslessly or 4K60 with compression, and that it requires no separate driver on Windows, macOS or Linux. Those are the channel’s test results and specifications, not a guarantee for every console-and-scaler combination. If OSSC SNES 5× is central to your setup, this test is a reason to check compatibility before buying.
