A simple MC6847 video card takes shape for homebrew 8-bit computers

The 6502 Show discusses a hand-drawn video interface schematic beside a prototyping board
Video still from The 6502 Show, “The super-simple video card takes shape” (12 October 2026).

A small 8-bit computer does not need a modern graphics subsystem to put pixels on a screen. In a video published on 12 October, The 6502 Show lays out and begins building a simple video interface for homebrew 6502- and 6800-family machines.

The plan centres on Motorola’s MC6847 video display generator, familiar from the TRS-80 Color Computer. The creator sketches how it can be connected to a small, memory-mapped computer and starts transferring the circuit to prototyping hardware. This is a build in progress, not a finished or tested video-card release.

That makes the episode useful for builders interested in the practical boundary between a CPU bus and a display chip: the project turns an abstract “add video” wish into address decoding, wiring and a physical board. The video is 15 minutes 11 seconds long.
